Kitchen Garden

At Newbury Primary school students from Prep – 6 part take in the Kitchen Garden program. The Kitchen Garden program works with students to create a working garden where students are given the opportunity to plant, harvest and maintain the plots. We plant a variety of herbs and vegetables.

The program is tailored to meet the curriculum and provides students with a fresh take on learning core subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science and building relationships and learning to work collaboratively.

Students from Years 3 – 6 are given the opportunity to use the food that is harvested from the Kitchen Garden and use it in the cooking program. The purpose built kitchen gives students a chance to create seasonal dishes and try new foods. Students gain life skills as well as make connections about food sources, form positive food habits, encourage critical thinking and encourage collaboration.
